On 18th and 19th September 2021 Walsall swimmers made the trek up the M6 to Stoke to complete in the Derek Taylor Memorial Open Meet. In the first open meet back after the COVID-19 pandemic, Walsall swimmers won 50 medals with 23 golds, 10 silvers and 17 bronzes. The younger swimmers, many of whom it was their first meet, swam particularly well. It was good to see everyone cheering each other on. There were always around 5 or 6 Walsall teammates cheering on our swimmers at the end of their lane. There was a fantastic atmosphere and the encouragement was amazing. It really helped us achieve our fantastic results!
Special mentions go to Oliver Gunther who achieved 8 golds (from 8 events!), Tiffany Latham who won 7 golds and 1 bronze, Oliver Perry who achieved 4 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze, Layla Garbett who won 4 silvers and 2 bronzes, Ewen Slater who gained 2 golds and 2 bronzes, Ethan Perks who got 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronzes and finally, Chloe Barnard gained 1 gold and 2 bronzes.
Everyone swam really well with many PBs and they should be really proud of themselves. Thank you to the coaches for coaching us day in, day out. We couldn’t achieve this without you! Full results can be found here:
